Press release Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour London Walk Mukti Mitchell has reached London in his 15ft yacht with no engine after sailing ¾ of the way around Britain to promote low carbon lifestyles. The tour visits London to deliver 1,400 copies of The Guide to Low Carbon Living to the Queen, Prince of Wales, Prime Minister and the nation's MPs and Lords. "I wrote the guidebook to be quick and easy to read, yet contain all the information you need to cut your carbon dioxide emissions by 75%. This makes it ideal for busy people like MPs and Lords, so I would like to offer the guides as gifts to assist them in their work to reduce the nation's carbon dioxide emissions." says Mukti. He will lead a walk from Tower Hill to Westminster on Saturday 18th August in which 28 of the walkers will carry the 1,400 gifts by hand. The "zero-emission microyacht" Chance was rowed at night from Greenwich to its current berth at St. Katherine's Docks, Tower Bridge, after being guests of the Gravesend Lifeboat and Greenwich Yacht Club. "It's fantastic to sail right into the heart of the nation's capital by the lights of Canary Wharf and the Millennium Dome" says Mukti. "Approaching London by the Thames shows you what an impressive metropolis it is, and to end up moored under Tower Bridge just capped it all - it is the most beautiful construction I've ever seen from the water" he added. The 6-month tour of Britain, endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales, Tony Blair, David Cameron, Menzies Campbell and leading UK environmentalists, left Clovelly, Devon on 8th April and has sailed over 1,500 miles around Wales and Scotland to reach London. Mukti has stopped at over 40 ports of call including Swansea, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh, to give talks on low carbon living, hand out flyers and guidebooks and talk to regional media. An estimated audience of over 5 million have heard about the tour through regional newspapers, television and radio, as well as sailing magazines. Since leaving Clovelly, Mukti has seen countless dolphins, seals, puffins and diving gannets, and had to brave force 7 winds with 10ft waves in the Irish Sea. "I've crewed on yachts across the Atlantic and the Caribbean, but Britain can easily compete for sheer sailing pleasure" says Mukti. "I've also had the privilege of being hosted by some wonderful, friendly people around the coast, from councillors to fishermen. In October 2006 a survey by the Carbon Trust found that '75% of the British Public believe that climate change is a serious issue that needs to be tackled now' and there has been constant interest and enthusiasm all along the way. I think what people like about the tour is its positive message: 'Low carbon lifestyles are good for the planet, and they also improve your quality of life'. And they are much easier than people think. The guidebook shows you in 10 simple steps exactly what you can do, and how much CO2 each activity saves." Mukti has had positive responses to his talks, including one lady from Scarborough who told him: "Probably the most interesting talk I have ever heard - every minute was inspirational." You can join the walk to Westminster, which leaves from Trinity Square Gardens, Tower Hill Tube, at 1030 on Saturday 18th August. The walk goes via the south bank to Westminster, Downing Street, Clarence House and Buckingham Palace, and ends with a talk by Mukti at Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park from 5-6pm.
